A huge milestone for the league great.
It was one of the best nights in Atlanta Dream history on Wednesday night.
The Atlana Dream defeated the Phoenix Mercury by a score of 72-63 at the Gateway Center Arena. It was the Dream’s third straight win. This winning streak has revitalized their season and sent a clear message to the rest of the league.
Tina Charles had herself a game as she is now the WNBA second all time leading scorer. She has now scored 7,491 points in her career. She is currently 3,009 points behind the WNBA all time leading scorer Diana Taurasi. Charles finished the game with 12 points and 17 rebounds.
“It’s just a whole bunch of gratitude as I know this moment is big, but I give the glory to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I was just in so much awe of how faithful he is, and where I was last year, and where I’m today. It’s just full circle for me just in in my career for it to be done with Tanisha (Wright) one of the most impactful teammates that I had in my life. And I’m just thankful to be on the court with Diana — and in the same sentence is just unimaginable and God really gets the glory,” said Charles.
Allisha Gray was also big for the Dream as she added a team-high 21 points. Rhyne Howard followed that with 19 points. She made history as she now has 1,500 points in her career. Howard is only the seventh player in franchise history to accomplish such a milestone.
The momentum the team has built since the Olympic break is palpable, and the chemistry they’ve developed will be vital as they approach the final stretch of the season. If they continue to play with this level of intensity and cohesiveness, they could become a serious threat to any team in the league. The next few games will be crucial as the Dream look to maintain their winning ways and secure spot in the playoffs.
