His defense continues to rack up awards.
The Atlanta Hawks had another player receive an award for Player of the Month honors for March. Dyson Daniels was named the Defensive Player of the Month for March. It’s also his second time winning the award this season, making him the second player to receive the award multiple times after Evan Mobley. The Hawks were 9-5 for the month of March.
Daniels has had an amazing season defensively for the Hawks after being acquired in an offseason trade from the New Orleans Pelicans. In March, Daniels recorded 46 steals which led the league during the month. He also leads the league in total steals and steals per game. The third-year guard has earned the nickname The Great Barrier Thief for his defensive accomplishments this season.
Earlier this season he became the youngest player to have 200 steals in a season and the fifth player to do so before turning 23 years old. He also recorded his 213th steal against the Milwaukee Bucks which passed Hawks great Mookie Blaylock for most steals in a single season in Hawks history. Daniels achieved another milestone in the win against the Bucks as he secured his 400th deflection of the season.
Daniels, in 69 games for the Hawks, is also averaging 14.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game offensively to go along with the defense. Daniels is almost a shoo-in for the first team All-Defensive team this season. At the young age of 21 years old, Daniels fits Atlanta’s plans of building a good young roster around superstar point guard Trae Young.
