Big home wins over the Storm and Sun.
The Atlanta Dream are finally healthy as they won their second consecutive game with an 82-70 victory over the Connecticut Sun. The Dream played some of their best defense of the season. The Dream’s defensive philosophy has been rooted in discipline and versatility.
The last two games they have shut down the opposition perimeter shooters while also protecting the rim, allowing them to excel at all facets on defense. Defensively, the Dream forced 17 Connecticut turnovers and held the Sun to shooting just 35.4% from the field.
“It was another gutsy win, we are obviously excited to be back home, they came out defensively and really executed the game plan,” said head coach Tanisha Wright.
Leading the charge on offense for the Atlanta Dream was Tina Charles, who delivered an impressive performance, scoring 22 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard also made significant contributions, combining for 24 points along with eight assists.
Both players also played a crucial role on defense. The first half was tightly contested, with both teams exchanging baskets and defensive stops. Atlanta never trailed during the first half. The Atlanta Dream employed a fast-paced offense, moving the ball quickly and capitalizing on transition opportunities.
A significant part of the Dream’s first-half success can be dedicated to Charles, who consistently deliver when it matters most. Charles had 11 points and six rebounds in the half. Charles ability to create her own shot and attack the rim set the tone for the Dream offense, making it difficult for Connecticut to find a defensive answer.
“I just think this is who I’m and this is who I have been my entire career. I don’t think I’m doing anything different; I don’t think about my age. I’m just super competitive and I love to hoop, we just needed this win. It’s a new season for us and I’m just trying collect as many dubs as we can. Regardless of my stat line I’m just trying to win and have a lot of fun,” said Charles.
The Dream would close the game with a strong fourth quarter as they had a 19-2 run in the quarter. It was the Dream defense that forced Connecticut into difficult shots while also grabbing key rebounds.
On the offensive side, they moved the ball with precision, finding open looks and converting them with ruthless efficiency. Gray was huge for the Dream scoring seven points in the quarter.
