The Hawks will draft first for the first time in 49 years.
The ping-pong ball combinations favored the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday afternoon in Chicago.
Atlanta came into the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery with a 3% chance (roughly 1-in-30) at picking first overall around a 14% chance (roughly 1-in-7) at moving into the top-4 in the 2024 NBA Draft, and they cashed in on those odds.
As a result, the Hawks will select first in the upcoming draft — a draft that will be held over two days for the first time in history on June 26 and June 27. The draft class is widely projected to be on the shallower side, but they’ll get first dibs at whomever they like in a few weeks.
The Hawks can pick between promising players the likes of Zaccharie Risacher and Alex Sarr — a pick needed towards addressing the many needs on this 36-46 squad from a season ago.
As a product of the Saddiq Bey trade, Atlanta will not own a second-round pick, making this lottery first-round pick their only of the draft this year.
