How many games do the Hawks win?
In the lead up to the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, we had some big questions about this Atlanta Hawks team that need answering.
This is the fifth and final of many roundtable topics we here at Peachtree Hoops are weighing in on. The previous one can be found here.
What is your prediction for the regular season record?
Wes – Nationally, expectations are clearly down for the Hawks for this upcoming season. But my bold prediction is that with an improved perimeter defense, deeper squad, and less redundant offensive structure around Trae Young, the Hawks will surprise people.
I’ll go with a 44-38 record that will have the Hawks flirting with a top-6 seed in the East.
Graham – It is surprising how low the league and Vegas is on the Hawks… 36.5 wins? Even in injury-hit seasons, the Hawks have always won more games than this, even last season. I like the 42-44 win range for the Hawks.
The East is stronger this season, and the Hawks have to hope for strong development from within in order to keep up with the additions other teams around them have made, and I think they have the development from within to achieve it through Johnson and Risacher. If you had to nail me down to a number, stick me in for 43-39 for a comfortable play-in spot.
Hassan – I agree with the consensus here that Atlanta will be better than the national media is projecting them to be, and will predict a 43-39 record for the Hawks in 2024-25.
With the size and depth that they added on the wings, and new addition, Dyson Daniels, in the lineup, I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the Hawks will finish with a top-20 defense for the first time since the 2020-21 season. Meanwhile, the offense should be back to a top-10 unit with Trae Young leading the way.
