The Traejounte era is over.
After two lackluster seasons pairing Trae Young and Dejounte Murray in the backcourt, the Hawks have finally decided to turn the page.
Late into the afternoon, news broke about the Hawks sending Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans, but it took a few moments before the final trade details were revealed. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN has the full breakdown of the trade:
Full trade on ESPN: Dejounte Murray for Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, 2025 first-round pick (via Lakers), 2027 first-round pick (least favorable of Bucks-Pels) https://t.co/4BLEuDodqT

The Hawks originally traded for Dejounte Murray in 2022, surrendering two unprotected first-round picks in 2025 and 2027 as well as a pick swap in 2026 and a Charlotte first-round pick. In 2023, the team handed him a four-year extension that kicks in this offseason worth up to $120.5 million in total.
While Murray averaged over 20 points and six assists per game in both seasons in Atlanta, the team’s performance did not live up to expectations. The Hawks went 77-87 over the past two seasons, including the missing the playoffs entirely in 2023-24.
The Pelicans are sending two picks, one being the unprotected Lakers pick that New Orleans deferred from this draft earlier this offseason, as well as young wing player Dyson Daniels and veteran big man Larry Nance Jr., who is on an expiring contract worth around $11 million for this season.
The roster shakeup probably isn’t done, either, but this first domino was one that had been building for months at this point. Please be sure to discuss below and follow for more updates in the days ahead.
