On Thursday, the NBA All-Star Game reserves were announced. As always, people debated whether the correct players were selected and who got snubbed. One of those players who received the short end of the stick is Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young. This isn’t the first time that the 26-year-old will find himself on All-Star snub lists. As a matter of fact, Young has coined a new phrase for getting snubbed in honor of himself.

Getting Traed Again
Now, almost every year, some of these All-Star snubs end up getting in the game. Whether it’s injury or personal reasons, players end up dropping out and needing to be replaced. That’s what happened with Young last year, as he played after originally not being named a reserve. He was seen as one of the bigger snubs, and even LeBron James chimed in on Young not being invited.
AGREED!!! I’m not quite understanding this! Cause it can’t be about Ws/Ls cause cats have definitely gotten in with wayyy nastier records in the past. He be cooking EVERY NIGHT! Stop it! He’s an All- for sure. Something is REAL -E.

With it happening again this year, Young went on X to coin a new phrase for being snubbed, using his name in clever fashion.
& it’s no longer getting “snubbed” it’s getting “Traed” at this point
Sorry to my fans.. it’ll change eventually!
All right, talk soon!— Trae Young (@TheTraeYoung) January 31, 2025
So for the second straight year, ‘getting Traed’ happened to Young. Unfortunately, the Hawks recent play may have left a bad taste in the mouth for those that cast their votes late. Thursday was the Hawks seventh consecutive loss, and they now own a 22-26 record. That is currently ninth-best in the Eastern Conference. Not only that, but now Jalen Johnson is out for the season with a torn labrum in his left shoulder.
The seven All-Star reserves in the Eastern Conference are Damian Lillard, Darius Garland, Jaylen Brown, Cade Cunningham, Tyler Herro, Evan Mobley, and Pascal Siakam. Other snubs in the East include LaMelo Ball, Tyrese Maxey, Tyrese Haliburton, Jarrett Allen, and Josh Hart.
All-Star Case
Now in his seventh season, last year was Young’s third All-Star appearance as he and Scottie Barnes were named injury replacements for Joel Embiid and Julius Randle. The 6-foot-1 guard must love even years, as he also played in the game in 2020 and 2022. Long one of the more polarizing figures in the league, Young puts up eye-popping numbers but also often gets exposed for his lack of size on defense. Other than a surprise Eastern Conference Finals appearance for Atlanta in 2021, Young’s playoff appearances consisted of quick first round losses in 2022 and 2023.
Young has played in 44 of the Hawks first 48 outings on the season. He is posting averages of 22.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 11.4 assists, and 1.3 steals. On the positive side, Young is leading the league in assists per contest. On the negative side, this certainly hasn’t been Young’s best season when it comes to shooting accuracy. Young has inefficient shooting marks of 40% from the field and 34% from beyond the arc. He also is tied for the league lead in turnovers per game at 4.6 with James Harden (although Harden was named a Western Conference reserve).
So it’s just another year of Young being a polarizing figure. Some will say it’s absolutely crazy that he once again wasn’t named a reserve. Others will point out to his inefficient scoring on the season. One thing is for sure though, Young shouldn’t quite make other plans for All-Star Weekend as there’s a fairly good chance a replacement (or replacements) may be needed.
