The Atlanta Hawks played the Pistons in Detroit for the last game of their road trip. The starting lineup looked a little different with De’Andre Hunter at the four; Trae Young, Dyson Daniels, Zaccharie Risacher, De’Andre Hunter, and Onyeka Okongwu.
Hunter scored the first seven points of the game for the Hawks. Young griped with the officials after he was hit in the face and no foul was called. He, of course, was rewarded with a technical foul. The first quarter played even and the Pistons led 35-34 entering the second.
The Hawks overtook the lead early in the second. Young had already notched 13 points. With 5:16 remaining the Hawks led by seven. Hunter shoved Ausar Thompson as things started to get chippy. After review, Hunter earned a technical foul.
The Hawks led 73-64 at half.

Early in the fourth, Michael Beasley committed a flagrant foul on Risacher that led to a dangerous fall in transition. Risacher was slow to get up but remained in the game. The Hawks were leading 111-101 after his free throws. With under five minutes left in the game, Cade Cunningham cut the deficit to four with a three. Young then responded with a corner three of his own. However, the Pistons still managed to bring the game within two afterward. With roughly three minutes remaining, Tobias Harris tied the game again, then gave his team the lead.
Young again responded with a three to take the lead. He earned then his fifth foul, racking up four in the fourth quarter alone.
