The San Antonio Spurs have considered trading for Trae Young, but have ultimately moved in another direction as they have move forward with De’Aaron Fox. Young’s future with the Atlanta Hawks is unclear as they are now on a timeline where they may need to take a step back.
“The direction of the Hawks is bleak considering where he stands and what he wants to accomplish,” said Chris Haynes on NBATV. “I will say this: before the San Antonio Spurs made the move for De’Aaron Fox, they were considering De’Aaron and they were considering Trae Young. But with the way the Spurs are setup right now, they’re not setup to start winning games and contend right now. So there was never really a hurry to bring in an established point guard to move onto the next phase. But De’Aaron Fox kind of fell into their lap and he picked them as the sole team he wanted to play with. They chose him. It was a much easier lift to get De’Aaron. But Trae Young was on the San Antonio Spurs’ radar.”
Young can become a free agent in 2026.
