The Braves have once again used “cash considerations” to acquire another piece to what feels like a never-ending puzzle for this team right now.
The Atlanta Braves have once again gotten busy with trying to reinforce their squad at the moment. Even while a game is going on, the Braves are still making some moves. The Astros were the ones to announce the deal on their social media pages, along with a corresponding move that doesn’t have anything to do with Atlanta.

Montero has made three appearances so far here in 2025 and while he did give up a couple of runs against the Giants in his season debut, he’s pitched three scoreless innings since then — including two scoreless frames with three strikeouts just a couple of days ago against the Twins.
The Braves are sending cash considerations and a Player To Be Named Later in the deal. There’s no telling as to whether or not we’ll actually figure who that unnamed player will be in the future but we do know that the Braves have been making frequent use of “cash considerations” in their most recent trades. Now they’re hoping that they’ll be able to add an effective reliever to their bullpen with this move.
UPDATE [8:53 p.m. ET]: The Astros are most definitely sending cash Atlanta’s way in this deal since he’s making a pretty penny at the moment.
Rafael Montero is in the final year of the three-year, $34.5 million contract owner Jim Crane gave him while running the baseball operations department in 2022. The Astros are sending cash to the Braves, but it’s unclear how much. https://t.co/yb5fvge9wb
