That’s one big name back on the team. Still got a few more to go! Also, Drake Baldwin is staying in the bigs.
While the Atlanta Braves may not have played today due to a rainout, they did get some good news on the injury front. After having a successful rehab stint with Triple-A Gwinnett, Sean Murphy is officially back with the big league team after the Braves activated him from the 10-Day IL.
The #Braves today returned C Sean Murphy from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the injured list, and designated C Chadwick Tromp for assignment.

Murphy played four rehab games with the Gwinnett Stripers and basically spent the entire time hitting lasers and dingers. Over those four games, Murphy collected five hits with two of them being singles, one of them being a double and two home runs as well. He looked ready to play and now we have confirmation of that from the big league club itself as he’s been activated.
While it was always clear that the Braves were going to activate Sean Murphy sooner rather than later, the big question was who would the Braves be moving down in order to make room for their starting catcher? As it turns out, it’s Chadwick Tromp. The Braves have designated him for assignment and assuming that nobody puts a claim out there for him, I’d say there’s a strong chance that he’ll be heading to Gwinnett. This means that Drake Baldwin will be staying around as the backup catcher (or whatever role they can find for him) at the big league level.
While Baldwin’s counting stats certainly suggest that he’s been scuffling, all you have to do is take one quick glance at his Baseball Savant page and it becomes evident that sooner or later, it’s going to start clicking for this guy at the big league level and he deserves to stay up. I’d imagine that we’ll see Murphy and Baldwin split time together while Murphy gets acclimated to seeing big league hitting again but for now, it’s clear that the Braves have decided that their top prospect would be best served staying in the big leagues — on top of the fact that they’re getting their primary catcher back.
