The veteran utilityman adds organizational depth
While much of the fan-base waits impatiently for a major free agent signing or trade to bolster the big-league roster, the Atlanta Braves continue to add to their organizational depth. According to the team’s transaction page, the team has inked Eddy Alvarez to a minor league contract.
Alvarez, who will turn 35 before the end of this month, is a long-time minor leaguer who has seen limited action at the MLB level in four of the last five seasons.
Debuting with the Miami Marlins in 2020 at age 30, Alvarez has played in 62 career games, including 12 with the New York Mets last season. He carries a .501 career OPS in the majors but a more robust .817 during his minor league career. He had a .811 OPS in Triple-A with Boston in 2024. The Mets purchased him from the Red Sox in September last season.
With Atlanta, he will likely head to a revamped Gwinnett squad at Triple-A and give the Braves depth in the event they have injury issues that rival 2024 this season.
Alvarez has experience at second base, third base and in the outfield in the big leagues.
