The Atlanta Braves received encouraging news about Michael Harris II. The Braves announced that Harris will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, per Justin Toscano of the AJC. Harris, who is on the injured list, is eligible to return on August 14. Barring any setbacks, he should return then to help the Braves for the stretch run. Atlanta is 60-51 and holds the first spot in the National League Wild Card race.

Michael Harris II to Begin Rehab Assignment Tuesday
Harris has been out since the middle of June due to a Grade 2 hamstring strain. He was on the 10-day IL before being transferred to the 60-day IL to add space to the roster. In Harris’ absence, Jarred Kelenic took over center field duties with time spent in left field. The former Rookie of the Year started all 67 games in center field for Atlanta this year. He hasn’t had a good third season, posting a .250/.295/.358 batting line prior to his injury. When Harris returns, the Braves will have a deeper outfield. They recreated the magic of their 2021 World Series run by bringing in Jorge Soler and Eddie Rosario. Soler is playing in right field with Adam working as a short-side platoon bat with Kelenic now in left field.
Harris is one more bat who can help the Braves get going as they’ve received little production from their outfielders since Ronald Acuna Jr. tore his ACL. Harris had taken over the leadoff spot against right-handed pitchers following Acuna’s injury. Aside from the Acuna injury, the Braves have seen their fair share of injuries this season. However, getting Harris back is good news as it’s a step closer to full strength. Ozzie Albies, who’s out with a fractured wrist, could return in early September.
