There is life in a farm system that has been ravaged by promotions and sanctions
Baseball America has published their farm system rankings and the Atlanta Braves find themselves….closer to the bottom than last year. The Braves come in at 28th overall in baseball, down two spots from 26th last year. It’s important to note some of the reasoning behind the ranking which is that a lot of the impact players are much earlier in their development, and as a result are absolute wildcards when it comes to evaluation.
The @RedSox have returned to the top of the farm system rankings
No other organization can match the trio of Roman Anthony, Kristian Campbell and Marcelo Mayer, and Boston’s pitching depth has improved as well.https://t.co/VOrXkJCQ6x pic.twitter.com/eRMXHXGjPh

Players like Luis Guanipa, Jose Perdomo, John Gil the newly signed Diego Tornes as well as newly drafted players like Cam Caminiti, Nick Montgomery, and Luke Sinnard are so early in their development that’s it’s hard to give the Braves a bump in the rankings despite the massive upgrade in talent within the system compared to years past. This is also evident in the overall distribution of the players as a vast majority (by my count 24 of 30) of the players in their Braves top 30 list find themselves in High-A or lower.
It’s also evident that the rough years by AJ Smith-Shawver and Hurston Waldrep potentially hurt their overall evaluations as prospects and in return aided in dropping the overall evaluation of the farm system along with the graduation of Spencer Schwellenbach. Overall, this wasn’t the most surprising placement, however strong seasons by the younger players in the organization this year could lead to massive improvements in how everyone perceives the Braves organization because there’s no denying the overall potential of those players.
