Atlanta Braves news and notes from Friday.
The Atlanta Braves have had an injury-plagued 2024 and have hardly been able to catch a break. There are a couple of updates, though, on some injuries.
First up, Austin Riley is set to undergo a CT scan on Monday that will reveal if his hand still requires a cast. Riley suffered a right hand fracture on August 19.
#Braves 3B Austin Riley will have a CT scan on Monday to determine if his broken right hand is healed fully and if he can remove the cast. By the way, it was the hamate bone that he broke, he said today. The base of that small bone.

Starting pitcher Reynaldo López has also been down, this time with shoulder inflammation. He landed on the injured list on September 11. Fortunately, he began throwing on Friday, but there is not yet a timetable for his return.
Snitker said Reynaldo López played catch today, his first throwing since leaving his Sept. 10 start with shoulder inflammation. No timetable for return.
Also, Snitker said they’re still discussing plan for Chris Sale, re: whether to start him twice before end of season or once.— David O’Brien (@DOBrienATL) September 20, 2024
The Braves continue to fight for a playoff spot and will hopefully get some of these guys back in the process.
