Atlanta Braves news and notes from Thursday.
The Atlanta Braves had a back-and-forth affair Thursday night in a spring training clash with the Washington Nationals. Ultimately, the Braves won it 4-3. Bryce Elder made his second appearance but first start of the spring. He turned in a shaky start, lasting 2.2 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He struck out two and surrendered a base on balls.
Not only was the pitching lackluster, but third baseman Nacho Alvarez exited the game with discomfort in his wrist. Since it is spring training, the club acted out of an abundance of caution, so he will likely be just fine.
The Braves are back in action this afternoon against the Miami Marlins.
