Atlanta Braves news and notes from Saturday
The Braves continued their theme of saving money on Friday, as they non-tendered 5 players, saving maybe $13 million on the payroll. Alex Anthopoulos has indicated that payroll will go up this offseason (although in a press conference with multiple things that have already proven false) and separately has said that they are trying to save money because they think there will be “some opportunities” this offseason. What exactly those opportunities could be is the key and if history is any indicator, they could be some unexpected ones. That being said, the franchise has also seemingly been more open to shelling out a big free agent contract in recent years, so perhaps this could be the year for a more conventional offseason splash for the Braves, with a few appealing options at positions that fit the Braves’ roster.
