The Braves will have to make do without one of their usual relievers for the time being
Just a few days after getting sent down without making a big league appearance for the Atlanta Braves, RHP Zach Thompson is back with the major league squad — although it comes as a result of some unfortunate off-the-field circumstances for Aaron Bummer. Thompson has been recalled to Atlanta after Bummer has been placed on the bereavement list.
The #Braves today recalled RHP Zach Thompson to Atlanta and placed LHP Aaron Bummer on the major league bereavement list.

Bummer is currently sitting on a 4.50 ERA and a 2.57 FIP through five innings so far and his most recent appearance took place on Thursday night (yes, it was still Thursday when he was out there) as he pitched a scoreless inning of relief following a long rain delay. Meanwhile, Thompson will be looking to make his first big league appearance since his time as a starter with the Pirates back in 2022.
As far as Aaron Bummer goes, the most important thing here is for us to all hope for the best as he goes through what is surely a tough time. Hopefully he and his family are alright and I sincerely wish him peace and comfort during this time of bereavement.
