Four long-time veterans look to be on on the outside of the Opening Day roster,
This afternoon the Atlanta Braves announced that four long-time MLB veterans have been reassigned to their minor league camp.
Right-handed pitcher Buck Farmer and left-hander Jake Diekman were both on the bubble to making the team’s Opening Day bullpen. Also sent out from the major league camp were catcher Curt Casali and outfielder Jake Marisnick.

Farmer and Diekman are relative surprises. Both pitchers were late additions during this past offseason joining the club on minor league deals. Farmer, 34, is an 11-year MLB veteran with most of his time coming with the Detroit Tigers and Cincinnati Reds. Diekman, 38, has spent 13 seasons in the big leagues with the lefty seeing time with nine MLB clubs.
Casali, 36, has spent 11 season as primarily a back-up catcher, including last season with the San Francisco Giants. He was likely fifth on the team’s organizational depth chart.
Marisnick, soon to turn 34, also has 11 years experience in the big leagues although he didn’t appear at the highest level last season. He spent 17 games at Triple-A with the Braves in 2022.
Farmer seemed to have an inside track as the long-man in the bullpen but may have been squeezed of the roster after the team brought in Hector Neris several weeks ago.
Diekman joined fellow veteran Chasen Streve as options for the third left-hander in the team’s bullpen. Streve was previously optioned to the minor league came leaving Angel Perdomo as the likely third lefty.
All four players would likely start the season with Gwinnett if they are still with the organization after the end of Spring Training.
