Hernandez served as the 27th man for Monday’s doubleheader but will return to the active roster to give the team another fresh arm as they head out on a six-game road trip. Hernandez made his season debut Monday allowing a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning. He appeared in 12 games at Gwinnett where he had a 1.65 ERA and a 3.58 FIP in 16 1⁄3 innings.
Kerr impressed during his short stint on the roster but wouldn’t have been available for several days after throwing 3 1⁄3 innings in relief Sunday. Atlanta also added Darius Vines to the roster Monday and he will be an option to start Thursday’s game in Chicago if he isn’t needed out of the bullpen before then.
The team also announced that catcher Sean Murphy will begin a rehab assignment at Gwinnett on Tuesday. Murphy has been out since Opening Day due to a strained oblique.
