Drake Baldwin continues to be paired with Chris Sale in the first game of today’s split squad occasion. I would guess that we will see more of the typical lineup batting in the second game, but there has seemingly been an intentional effort this spring to have Baldwin catch for Sale. Given that those are the only two players that are much more than organizational depth on this roster, that only confirms this trend. That would seemingly put Baldwin in line to catch Opening Day. Additionally, Bryan De La Cruz gets the start in this game, against the righty pitcher, which he usually wouldn’t be, being the right-handed side of the likely right field platoon with Jarred Kelenic. Since today is a split squad, it makes perfect sense to get him some extra at-bats.
