The retired Atlanta Braves fan favorite joined Bananaball.
With the Atlanta Braves opening the regular season on the road in San Diego, that meant their home field, Truist Park, was available to be invaded by Bananaball – the barnstorming part-circus, part-baseball tour that has become a must-see event for many in recent years.
Last night, on March 29, the Savannah Bananas – the Harlem Globetrotters of the showcase – brought their brand of live sports entertainment to Truist Park at the Battery for the first of two sold-out events.
A recap of last night’s game against the Party Animals can be watched below which is choke-full of trick plays, dancing and a few emotional tributes to players who grew up in the region.
WHAT. A. NIGHT.

The Bananas – coming off of a recent sell-out at the stadium that is the football home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – are known for bringing in ex-MLB talent who are local to the area where their events are taking place. It is a cheap-pop – like in pro wrestling – and works to give the fans in “Bananaland” another reason to cheer and have a good time.
Last night, it was recently retired former Atlanta Braves fan-favorite Charlie Culberson who debuted for the Bananas. Culberson, who attempted to convert from a position player to pitcher before announcing the end of his 11-year big league career. A native of Rome, GA, Culberson spent parts of four seasons with the Braves.

Culberson popped-out in his first at-bat, but did do a back-handspring as he exited the field.
The Savannah Bananas – who were formed after the the minor league Savannah Sand Gnats relocated after the 2015 season – return to Truist Park today for another sold out game against the Party Animals. The big question is which former Braves player will surprise the fans today?
