Sale was the favorite and he takes home the hardware for the first time in his career.
BBWAA Awards week continued on through Wednesday night, as the spotlight switched from the managers to the pitchers as MLB announced the Cy Young Award winners for each respective league. The Atlanta Braves had a vested interest in the proceedings on this particular evening, as Chris Sale was a finalist after having an incredible bounce-back season in his first year with the Braves.
Chris Sale finished 2024 either as the league leader or among the leaders in nearly every important pitching statistic and metric that you can think of. He was the overwhelming favorite to receive the nod for the most prestigious pitching award in any given season here in 2024 and sure enough, the BBWAA voters agreed and voted Chris Sale as the NL Cy Young Award winner for 2024.

This is Sale’s first Cy Young Award of his career and he joins Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, John Smoltz and Warren Spahn as the fifth Braves pitcher to win the award and this is the eighth time a Braves pitcher has won the award since Maddux won it three times and Glavine won it twice while they were with the Braves. Sale was the clear favorite and was awarded as such for a fantastic season on the mound.
Stay tuned to this post as we’ll have quotes from Chris Sale coming later.
