The floggings may not continue, but the cuts certainly will
Another day, another mini-round of cuts from the Spring Training roster. Tonight’s victims: Davis Daniel and Amos Willingham.
The #Braves today optioned RHP Davis Daniel and RHP Amos Willingham to Triple-A Gwinnett. Atlanta now has 54 players in camp.

Daniel logged all of one Spring Training outing in major league camp, where he went two innings with a walk and a strikeout. He was acquired from the Angels back in December, has a minor league option year remaining, and honestly, has pretty decent fourth starter-y projections. The option likely did him in, but unless he gets cut to make 40-man room at some point, he’ll probably get at least a cup of coffee when the team needs a fresh arm.
Willingham, claimed off waivers from Washington last month, is in the same boat. He had a 2/0 K/BB ratio in an inning previously, and did the same earlier this afternoon, though the latter featured a triple that scored. His profile is fairly interesting in terms of stuff, but again, a minor league option and a stuffed pitching slate means that he’ll probably have to wait for his shot. Well, that and Willingham has never really shown the command to be able to succeed, so that’s a sizable roadblock as well.
Stay tuned for more cuts, and stuff.
