For me, it would be better if it weren’t at least partially the result of some very confusing goings-on in the offensive approach department
I feel somewhat naive for thinking that the daily questions would get easier when there were actual games, because things from the games could be appropriated for discussion the next morning. The only thing to discuss right now is some variant of whether the Braves are cooked or not, until they un-cook themselves.
That said, do you remember a worse losing streak? I’ll leave the interpretation of “worse” to you. The Braves have shed nearly 25 percent in playoff odds, and about five wins off their projected total — some of that is due to the Jurickson Profar suspension and Reynaldo Lopez injury, but a lot of it is because the default expectation for a seven-game stretch is probably 3-4 at worst, and they… did not go 3-4, so that’s four wins off the tally right there.
I remember doing game coverage for the game in which the 2016 team finally snapped its eight-game losing streak to start the year, but that team was a self-inflicted trauma wound from an addled designer, so it wasn’t really “bad” in the same way. I’m not sure I remember anything worse. The only thing that kind of sticks out in my head is getting swept by the Phillies to start the 2019 season, because the margin for error was lower then than right now, post-playoff expansion, and that roster wasn’t as strong on paper as this one. But that was also only three games, and the Braves promptly reeled off a four-game winning streak. I don’t think they’re going to reel off an eight-game winning streak now, not until they either magically click with what they’re being instructed to do offensively, or drop it and go back to what they were doing before… but with every game that passes, the latter gets less likely for the same reason they were never able to switch to this (worse) approach midseason, either.
