The right-handed starter looks to take another step forward in 2025.
Earlier today, MLB Pipeline released its list of prospects that it believes will take a step-forward in 2025. Following-up on its 2024 list, when MLB Pipeline highlighted one player from each organization’s minor league system, this year’s prospect from the Atlanta Braves organization they think could leap into the Top 100 top prospects list in 2025 is pitcher JR Ritchie.
Ritchie was Atlanta’s first round draft choice in 2022 out of Bainbridge High School in Washington. The right-handed starter underwent “Tommy John” surgery in 2023 but returned to the organization in 2024 with promising results, striking out 56 batters in 49.2 innings across three levels, topping out at high-A Rome.
If you’d like to read more on Ritchie’s 2024 season, read Battery Power’s Prospect Season in Review here. Ritchie was ranked 6th in the 2024 mid-season Battery Power Prospect Rankings and ranked 5th in the Battery Power Community Prospect Rankings as voted on earlier this off-season.
Ritchie will likely pitch at Double-A Columbus in 2025, although it is possible he could start back at Rome before heading south to the new home of the former Mississippi Braves.
