About how ham does Drake need to go, and will it matter?
I really like the Braves’ top prospect, Drake Baldwin. He has the power and the catching skills to play in MLB in 2025 and beyond. The only problem is that the Braves are pretty good at catcher right now, and Sean Murphy is locked down until 2029. As the minor league crew says, he is poised to be somebody’s starting catcher, but who knows if it be for the Braves or not. However it works out, it’s a good problem for the Braves to have. Baldwin could use some polishing in Gwinnett next year. The only question now is how much.
So what kind of Spring Training performance would it take for Baldwin to break camp? Something like a .450/.550/1.300 line? Is there a particular tweak he could make to start crushing Major League pitchers? Does he only make it upon an injury from Sean Murphy or Marcell Ozuna? The Braves tend to not hold back talent if it’s ready, so we’ll see soon.
