Another Spring Training day, another throwaway question
Ben Ingram and Darren O’Day had way too much fun ragging on Randy Labaut’s name last night, but I doubt it’s anything that’s going to carry over into something beyond yesterday’s radio broadcast. So, that got me thinking: have you ever heard or thought of a great nickname for a player that just… didn’t catch on or go anywhere?
I don’t know if I really have anything like that myself, but something that did minorly catch on, once upon a time, was “Glausosaur.” The provenance here is somewhat confusing — back in 2010, I was appending “-saur” or “-saurus” to all sorts of things, including, well, Troy Glaus’ surname on comments on this very site. That nickname made it into a few recaps (not written by me), though I’m not sure it was widely used. But then, in those 2010 playoffs, the camera once showed someone with a sign that said “I ♥ Glausosaur,” and that was amazing. Was that because of my incessant use of said nickname? Probably not. But maybe!
