And I mean, like, actually bold.
The regular season is almost upon us, unless “us” includes the Cubs and Dodgers, in which case they had an irregular start to a regular season already.
Years ago, when Fanposts were a thing, commentariat member BravesRays used to run an annual “Five Bold Predictions” feature, including both their own predictions, a chance for the community to share theirs, and an end-of-season wrap-up. We haven’t had that in a while for various reasons, and I don’t know if anyone wants to put in the legwork to do anything similar… but I can at least use this space to solicit one (or more, if you want) bold predictions for the upcoming season.
The key to bold predictions, is, well, boldness. What that means is certainly up in the air and non-specific, but I think of it is as something that, neutrally and objectively, probably has a 20 percent chance (or less) of occurring. A bold prediction, then, is rooted in the idea that there’s something off about the common or routine ways of assessing that probability, and it’s actually higher. (Or, I guess, alternatively, that the probability isn’t higher, but you are convinced via divine providence or whatever that it’s going to happen anyway. I can’t really get into that.)
Anyway, I’ve typed enough. Your turn.
