Whit Merrifield returned to the Atlanta Braves lineup at second base in tonight’s victory over the Toronto Blue Jays after missing two games as a result of being hit by a in the back of his head on an errant pitch thrown by Phillies reliever Jeff Criswell Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, Merrifield left the game tonight after fouling a ball off his left foot.

The Braves, who signed Merrifield after Ozzie Albies broke his wrist earlier this summer, appears to have avoided a serious injury as initial post-game reports indicate that his X-Ray was negative although he was still undergoing future tests.

Merrifield has hit .243/.359/.342 in 34 games with Atlanta after being released by Philadelphia on July 12. He joined the Braves 10 days later, although he was unavailable for several days after taking a ground ball off his finger during pre-game infield practice.
He was replaced in tonight’s game by Luke Williams.
