Who will be this year’s Peter O’Brien?
The Braves played an abbreviated Spring Training in 2020 before the covid lockdowns took over. Peter O’Brien was attempting to make the roster after bouncing around eight different organizations in nine years. He did a decent job, putting together a .194/.257/.581 line with four home runs. Those four home runs not only led the Braves in Spring Training, but were tied for the most in the Grapefruit League. But the sporting world and nearly everything came to a screeching halt in March that year. MLB would hold camps with their organization’s guys in the home stadiums in July. Peter was not in attendance then, and hasn’t been seen again in baseball.
Who will lead the Braves in Spring Training home runs this year? Will it be a regular like Olson or Ozuna or somebody the Braves have just invited? It likely won’t be Ronald Acuña again, as he is scheduled to spend time on the back fields. I guess we could speculate on the hits and stolen base leaders too if we want. It’s just practice, but live Braves baseball starts today.
