The book on the 2024-2025 offseason is running out of pages, but there’s still time to make a move… provided the Braves actually want to.
We’re trying something new here starting today — nothing major, nothing long, just a question to get the ball rolling on your morning (or your lunch break, or your afternoon, or whatever).
Most of the exciting free agents are off the board. The trade market hasn’t exactly been lit this offseason, which isn’t particularly surprising given the structure that MLB has created. The Braves are sitting pretty on paper, but they also currently project to need something like 270 innings from starters numbering five through something else on the depth chart — and that’s arguably a lower-end estimate.
Later today, Austin will have some thoughts about what type of starter the Braves should target, if they are indeed still planning to add. But before we get there, let’s just toss this question out — will the Braves add a rotation-mate to their roster before Opening Day?
Dylan Cease is the main name floating around in trade talks, though the Braves have a tendency to make a play for an unexpected target, so that doesn’t mean much. Nick Pivetta, Kyle Gibson, Andrew Heaney, and Lance Lynn are all still hanging out in free agency, to say nothing of the ten or so very-clearly-a-backend-rotation guy that might have to wait until Spring Training to latch on. So, there are options, but the question here is, will the Braves even bother?
