Tech assists in snapping Clemson’s four-game loss streak
The Jackets wound up on the wrong side of an upset this evening, falling 68-61 to Clemson in their final of a pair of road games. Shooting just under 35% from the field and 23.5% from the three, beget this surprising loss.
The first was evenly matched, with the Jackets trailing 12-14 at the end of the first. The second quarter was where things began to spiral. Clemson outscored Tech, 23-14, in the second, thanks in large part to the shooting performance of Maddie Cluse, who scored 14 points in the first half. Tech headed into the locker room down 37-26.
After the break, there was some life in the Jackets, scoring 19 points with key buckets from the bench. Despite outscoring Clemson, the Jackets still trailed by nine. In the final quarter, Tech brought the deficit within seven but was never able to truly capitalize.
Kara Dunn led the Jackets with 18 points, and Zoesha Smith tallied 12 rebounds on the night, but their efforts were not enough to outlast the Tigers. The team was just unable to connect with the rim, and at this point in the season, it is not unheard of for good teams to drop a game here and there.
Tech faces Wake Forest this Sunday at noon. The game against the Deacons is the first of three home match-ups for the Jackets. This game is a great opportunity to shake off the loss and refocus for a few at home before heading to California for the final regular season games of the year.
