How does the FTRS staff think that Georgia Tech’s season will go?
Benjamin Tankersley
It’s hard for me to be too optimistic since the defense is such a complete unknown. If the defense is as bad as it was last year, Tech is probably not going to a bowl game. Even with moderate improvement, Tech could still miss out a bowl game. I think Tech will see at least moderate improvement on defense. Between that and a possible jet lag-fueled upset this weekend, I think Georgia Tech will finish the regular season at least around 6-6. To give a range, I wouldn’t be surprised with anywhere from 5 wins all the way up to 8 or 9. Even if the win record doesn’t improve, though, I think this is a better Georgia Tech team than it was last year.

We’ve been preaching this time and time again on Scions of the Southland, but a 6-6 season with this team is not a step backwards, it’s probably progress considering who we play. I think we get to 7-5, but taking in everything we know about ACC football and our absurdly hard schedule, 6-6 does feel most likely.

7-5 in the regular season, with a final record of 8-5. I honestly think 6-6 is a more likely record given our schedule, but we often find rankings are unjustified as the season goes on; that combined with ACC chaos means I expect us to win some games that may not be as difficult as the rankings want you to think. I expect us to win more games than last year, but not by much. At the end of the season if we make a bowl game that is a huge accomplishment and I expect us to do so.
