An extra week to enjoy a win
Week 11 had 2 top pickers. Skiles85 and dakotabull both got 9 correct picks. Should’ve picked GT guys. mrbuzz1885 remains on the throne at the top overall with 74 correct picks.
We have a Thursday game on week 13 so be ready to make early picks next week as the polls will close Thursday night.
So it turns out there was a way for Tech to beat Miami, and Brent Key found it. It was a surprisingly dominant performance. Once the second half started Georgia Tech took the reigns and never let go. Miami did hang in there, and there were some scares at times, but GT held things together down the stretch. There are going to be plenty of deep dives on other articles on this site, but I’m just glad to see our scrappy team pull together to play the way I know they are capable of and compete with the big boys.
It’s crazy how quickly things flip. With the injuries and losses, I know many fans who were just done with the season. King was able to play, albeit not at 100%, and Key found a way to get the most out of King and the rest of the offense despite the injuries. The defense showed up, in a way that I frankly didn’t believe they could. Over the course of 3 hours on Saturday we went from questioning if we would even make a bowl game to defeating a #4 team on homecoming to become bowl eligible. I’m not sure how we will end the last 2 games of the season, but I feel this was a successful season after this win.
I’m sure some Miami fans will try to do it, but you can’t chalk this game up to luck. Despite the injuries, and the lack of talent, and all the reasons we shouldn’t have won, Tech gutted out a nasty win. regardless of what you think about last year’s win, GT earned the homecoming victory this year.
Side note: I do want to thank Cane Imperius for offering congratulations on another thread. Fanbases are going to smack talk, and boy do some fanbases love their smack talk, but I try to take it in stride since that’s part of being a sports fan. I didn’t enjoy Cane Imperius’s bashing of GT and our chances to win before the game, but I had already made my opinion of our chances clear in last week’s article, so I tried to give polite responses. I do appreciate him/her being willing to double back and offer congratulations to the winning team after Miami lost in embarrassing fashion to a GT that, as Imperius pointed out, was iffy at QB, RB, and on defense as a whole. We’ve all had to eat crow sometimes when our team loses unexpectedly, Miami fans in particular seem to have plenty of experience with unexpected and embarrassing losses over the past couple of decades, and it is not usually a fun experience. Once again, I do appreciate the congratulations they gave to us, even if it was halfhearted and self-deprecating.
Anyway…
In other news for the best weekend ever, uga lost and it was a blow out in Ole Miss’s favor. uga is still struggling to figure out their offense, and Ole Miss took full advantage. uga has got another tough game in Tennessee to play this upcoming week. Kirby needs to figure out how to get the offense going or they will have 2 losses in a row, and then they have to face the power house that is UMass before ending the year against a scary GT team.
I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m going to enjoy these good times right now.
picks:
Bye Week @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Logan: How did we get 3 of these this year? Crazy. Hopefully we get healthy for NC State.
Logan’s pick: Georgia Tech
Nebraska Cornhuskers @ USC Trojans (-9)
Logan: This seems like a big spread until you realize that Nebraska is missing a bunch of O-linemen, and their QB Raiola is suffering from a back injury, so he is technically questionable. Nebraska and USC are both fighting to get to a bowl game, and with the injuries I would not be shocked for USC to win; still this spread seems pretty large. I’ll take Nebraska to cover, especially if Raiola plays.
Logan’s pick: Nebraska
Boston College Eagles @ #13 SMU Mustangs (-16.5)
Logan: SMU is playing like an ACC Championship contender… which means this should be the typical ACC trap game where SMU falls on their face, but SMU seems to have some kind of protection from evil ACC voodoo in their first year in the ACC. I guess I’ll take SMU, despite the large spread.
Logan’s pick: SMU
#15 LSU Tigers (-4.5) @ Florida Gators
Logan: LSU got rocked last week. Alabama is still Alabama clearly. Florida is caught in this game with a myriad of injuries and have struggled to even be close in games. Despite getting this game at home I will take LSU to prove a point and crush the Gators.
Logan’s pick: LSU
#5 Texas Longhorns (-16.5) @ Arkansas Razorbacks
Logan: I can’t ever get it right with Texas. In response to this problem, I have decided to take after some of our readers and flip a coin. Heads Texas, tails Arkansas. Here we go…
(Flips Coin)
It’s tails, so I guess Arkansas’s my pick.
Logan’s pick: Arkansas
Utah Utes @ #20 Colorado Buffalo (-10)
Logan: If you told me after last year that Colorado would be playing in the BIG 12 championship game I would’ve laughed in your face. Crazy how things play out. Utah has a slim chance to pull an upset here, after being “robbed” of one last week. Utah is a better team than their record, but injuries and poor luck have hurt the Utes down the stretch. Colorado has done a good job covering the spread lately… Sure I’ll take the Buffalo.
Logan’s pick: Colorado
Cincinnati Bearcats @ #17 Iowa State Cyclones (-9)
Logan: Hard fall for Iowa State from where they were two weeks ago. There’s more riding on this for Cincinnati as they need to win a game to get to a bowl. In the one common game between these teams (Texas Tech) Iowa State kept things closer, but Cincinnati scored more points. I’ll take Cincinnati to keep it close and cover.
Logan’s pick: Cincy
#24 Mizzou Tigers @ South Carolina Gamecocks (-13.5)
Logan: If you can’t tell I’m kind of burning through these picks since I wasted all my free time rewatching clips from the Miami game. Anyway, South Carolina has come together, and Mizzou is falling apart. I’ll take South Carolina.
Logan’s pick: South Carolina
#23 Clemson Tigers (-10) @ #18 Pittsburgh Panthers
Logan: Clemson has to win to keep their hopes for an ACC title alive. Pitt seems to have hit the meat of their schedule and is struggling to move the ball on offense in all their games. I expect plenty of struggles on both sides of the ball for Pitt here. Give me Clemson.
Logan’s pick: Clemson
Tulane Green Wave (-6.5) @ Navy Midshipmen
Logan: Winner of this game will be going to the AAC championship… I mean there is more to it than that but that’s how this game feels. I really have no basis for this, but I’ll take Navy because that would be the more fun result.
Logan’s pick: Navy
#7 Tennessee Volunteers @ uga “sure is fun to watch them lose”s (-9)
Logan: Until uga proves they can fix their offense I have no reason to believe they can cover a 9 point spread against a very good Tennessee team.
Logan’s pick: Tennessee
