Hurting, but hopeful
Well, folks, the regular season has ended and we await bowl game results. I am excited to see what happens in the coming weeks across college football and how the new playoff system unfolds. As we reflect on the regular season, here is what I think I know about the Jackets.
This season was a success, and America has noticed
Am I writing this article to make myself feel better? Partially, yes. Despite the heartbreak and anger of the last week, I would love to spend some time focusing on the positives and progress made throughout the season. This season solidified the Jackets as a force to be reckoned with, once again upsetting ranked opponents and being competitive in all 12 games. We have a coach who loves Georgia Tech more than most fans. We have players who have bought into the program and the culture. The FSU, Miami, and UGA games had millions of eyes on them all across America, and in each game, every single member of the team played their hearts out. We were projected to be in ninth place in the ACC and came out tied for fourth. Many said a six-win season would be a huge success, and we have the opportunity to claim an eighth win in the bowl game. Just three years ago, we lost our last two games by a combined score of 100-0, and this year, we took georgia to eight overtimes. We have the second-best 2025 recruiting class in the conference, with four guys who flipped to us within the last two weeks. Let’s finish strong in the bowl game and take some of that momentum into next season.
While the uga game was the most crushing loss many Tech fans have ever had, we have also had some amazing wins
I did not know a football game could emotionally affect me the way Friday’s game did, and I never want to feel that pain again. To try and ease that pain, I decided to reflect on the wins we did have this season. The Week zero upset against FSU, cruising past Georgia State at home, a Jamal Haynes 68-yard game-winning touchdown, and a massive upset over the undefeated Miami Hurricanes. This season was memorable, it was fun, and it will be cherished on the Flats.
The future is bright
Pending the transfer portal, next year, we will return Haynes King, Jamal Haynes, Malik Rutherford, Eric Singleton, Kyle Efford, and the list goes on and on. We now have a stacked coaching staff backed by Brent Key to continue coaching up these players. I think it can be said that the Geoff Collins days are officially behind us, and the culture has changed in Atlanta.
No, this season was not perfect. Yes, I would love to take back a few pivotal moments that lost us some games. However, vast improvements have been made and we have a nice-looking rematch in Mercedes Benz next year.
Things are looking up. Go Jackets and THWg
