If you could do it all again and Tech wasn’t an option, where would you go?

DressHerInWhiteAndGold: If you had to do it all again, and there was no GT, where would you have wanted to matriculate?
Ben: Well, I didn’t choose Georgia Tech for my first (ABJ at UGA), second (M.Ed. at Georgia Southern), or now third degree (Ed.D. at West Georgia), so I guess nothing would change. If I could go back, though, I probably would do things a bit differently and try and get out in less than 7 years for my bachelors and pick something that is more useful in my everyday life. I’m happy with my grad school picks, though!
Jack: Princeton. My mom went there and it has one of the best student/alumni cultures in the country of any college. And they aren’t the stuck up kind of Ivy League school. Some of the buildings make you feel like you’re at Hogwarts. I would’ve hated the winters, but I would’ve felt lucky every day to be tehre.
Logan: My parents are big Alabama fans so it’s possible I would have gone there. Georgia Southern was my second choice school, but that was more because the first few years there could feed into GT, so not sure if that would apply.
Partywaggin: So I saw we had a strong recruiting weekend in football, signing 6 six guys, including two 4-**** players.
We then vaulted into the top 25 nationally/top 5 (depending on who you ask) in the ACC.
So what’s different this time? I feel like with CPJ we had plenty of 3-*** guys with a 4-**** or two mixed in but barely sniffed the top 40.
I know this is for the 2025 class, it’s fairly early, and a lot can change in a year. I don’t follow all the recruiting that closely. Are most of the 3-*** guys expected to be 4-**** after this fall with some potential for a 5-***** from the 4-**** guys?
Ben: I wouldn’t bank on any of our guys becoming 5-stars. That’s not to say that it won’t happen, but it’s probably not super likely. Overall, though, I think Brent Key is finally living up to his recruiting prowess. He has installed a strong staff around him and placed a high focus on building relationships with Georgia high schools. I’m excited to see how recruiting continues to progress over the next few years.
Logan: this is speculation on my part since I’m not in the recruiting pitch meetings, but I think it has a lot to do with Key’s enthusiasm. Looking at the players last year they were excited to play for Key and Key was out there celebrating with our guys when something good happened. Clearly Key loves Tech both as a Coach here and an Alumni; when your coach actually enjoys what he does it rubs off on recruits. It doesn’t trump everything, money still talks. I don’t expect us to suddenly pull in 5 stars, but it does help sell to talented students who want a coach that doesn’t just want to win but also wants all his players to enjoy their Georgia Tech experience.
