Do you give any credence to the idea that the SEC and BIG10 don’t want Clempson and F$U because they are “disruptive”?
DressHerInWhiteAndGold: If Clemmins and Free Seafood jail break from the ACC, which remaining program becomes the most valuable gobbet to be plucked from the corpse of the ACC?
Ben: My gut says either UNC or Miami. Both are generally on the cusp of being good or really good. They are good marketable brands.
Jack: The next most popular team when you lose FSU and Clemson is Duke and UNC basketball.
Logan: UNC would be the prize, but I think the North Carolina schools are making that difficult since UNC seems to have some agreement that they can’t go anywhere without NC State and possibly Duke. I think Miami would be the next biggest get and could be important if a conference wants to pin down the Florida market.
Partywaggin: Not a gamer, but they say, “If it’s in the game, it’s in the game!” Is is true for EA CFB25?
Ben: I don’t have a system or time to play it, but if I did, I would be all over it. Even if it isn’t as good as NCAA 14, it’s new, so people will get over any lack of quality.
Logan: It’s good man. If you have a system just go ahead and get it.
Jack: Stayed up until midnight last night to get a game in. It was fantastic. I suck but I don’t care. It’s great to come home.
Dinowizerd: Hey y’all, you giving any credence to the idea that the SEC and BIG10 don’t want Clempson and F$U because they are “disruptive”?
Ben: I chuckled a little bit when I read that about FSU. The whole thing is just kind of weird, and I don’t know that I’m in a place where I can make any predictions about what is going to happen to the ACC or those two teams.
Logan: It’s all about money. I think all these lawsuits may be making conferences give it a little more thought, but if the money’s there then conferences are going to want FSU and Clemson.
Jack: I do. I think anyone would agree they’ve been loud and annoying about their situations. For the SEC and B1G, I think they’d just be a nuisance thinking they’re worth so much when in the context of those conferences, they’d be another middle of the pack team (most years). Neither conference needs either team. Assuming the CFP stays in this format, moving conferences may not be the best move for them considering it’s going to be a lot easier to win the ACC compared to those conferences.
BillOBrienEnthusiast: Which incoming football transfer is bringing STIs to the Jackets this season? That would be Size, Toughness, and Instincts.
Ben: Well, the Yellow Jackets did get a transfer player from UGA….to actually answer your question, I’m really intrigued by Syeed Gibbs, the cornerback transfer from Rhode Island. Sure, it was at a lower level, but he impressed in a major way. With Myles Sims gone, the Yellow Jackets have a spot available.
Logan: I struggle predicting how players will do, but I am curious about how Romello Height will perform. In terms of athleticism I think he has a lot to add to the defense.
Ed Helinski (from Twitter): In your estimation, how does this year’s Georgia Tech team stack up against last year’s team? Was recruiting and the portal good to the Rambling Wreck?
Ben: I think this year’s team has a chance to be better, even if the record doesn’t show it. Meaning that if Georgia Tech still goes 7-6, I think it’s highly likely that if the two were to meet up in a hypothetical match-up, the 2024 team would win. The defense seeing any improvement at all is going to be a boon for the Yellow Jackets this season.
Logan: The offense is just as good as last years. Of the defense shows any improvement at all then this years team will be at least slightly better than last years. Just because we’re better than last year doesn’t mean we’re getting a better record with the schedule we have coming up.
Jack: What Ben said I think is the likely route this team takes. On paper, we are better. It will show on the field that Tech got better as a team and has a defined future ahead of them. The challenge the schedule brings this season is immense. This team with last year’s schedule could win eight, maybe nine games. The thing I’d implore Tech fans this season to remember is that a 6-6 regular season is not a failure. We know this will be hard, there will be a stupid loss and a crazy win in there, but how we get there is going to be the most telling for if 2025 is going to be a launch year for Brent Key’s reign.
Nick Purdy (from Twitter): What will the change in stadium capacity be for this season? Did it affect any STHs?
Ben: It was reported that capacity would shrink a little over 3,000 seats (55K to 51,913). I can’t answer that about season ticket-holders.
Jack: Only took ya two years to get in the mailbag, dad! Anyways, those STHs were moved elsewhere in the stadium. We don’t have a space problem so those were easy to move.
