Which athlete(s), all sports available, should be up for induction to GT Halls of Fame; now or soonish?
DressHerInWhiteAndGold: Which athlete(s), all sports available, should be up for induction to GT Halls of Fame; now or soonish?
Logan: The time delay on the hall of fame is tough. you usually need about 10 years of consideration before you become inducted, so when the time comes around for someone to be inducted most fans don’t have memories of their recent achievements. I love football personally, so I do remember most of our guys from the 2010 to 2015 teams, but ask me about tennis, golf, swimming… basically any other sport and I would struggle to remember who was on those teams. Tevin Washington will probably be in consideration pretty soon. Possibly Josh Okogie… that’s all I can really remember at this point.
Ben: As Logan said, time delay is a weird thing with the Hall of Fame. Looking at that 2010-15 range, I think you see Justin Thomas get the nod in a few years. As for the other sports, that would be a Jake/Jack question.
DressHerInWhiteAndGold: Do we really have the best QB in the ACC this year?
Logan: I don’t know how honest you want me to be here. Personally, I think so but I obviously have a decent bias in the matter. Depending on who you listen to DJ Uiagalelei at FSU and Cam Ward at Miami have the most raw talent for QBs as far as throwing goes. I watched what DJ did at Clemson and at Oregon State, and while he is impressive I’m not sure he deserves the hype he seems to get based on what we’ve seen so far. I will admit that Cam Ward has impressed with the stats, but you have to keep in mind that the air raid run at Washington State tends to pump up QB stats. looking at the results last year Cam stumbled in a few games he probably should’ve dominated in, in particular Stanford and Arizona were some strange losses for him. Grayson McCall is the most proven QB in my opinion. While you can debate his competition in the Sun-Belt, McCall put up ridiculous numbers at Coastal Carolina and has been a proven leader on the field. I expect McCall to impress more people now that he is a starter at NC State. Kyron Drones is also an interesting player at Virginia Tech who is more versatile as a runner but has put effort into his passing game this year. I think King is in the running with all of these guys as the top QB in the ACC, he just has to cut down on the turnovers.
Ben: I wouldn’t say he isn’t the best, but I wouldn’t say he’s the best either. It’s going to come down to whether or not King can clean up the mistakes. Haynes King led the ACC in interceptions last year. I don’t care how good you are, if you’re the best, you’re not at the top of that list.
TkTheGoat: If Geoff Waffle House Collins gets carried to a few 8 win seasons where he does pretty much nothing except run madden defenses and eat hashbrowns, will any program be dumb enough to hire him as a HC?
Logan: Yeah, I think UNC is setting up to take him as a potential successor for Mack Brown should 404 find a way to be passable as a coach. We’ll just have to see what happens.
Ben: If UNC sees improvement on defense, someone will give him a chance, I’m sure. He’s a charismatic guy (at least at the start), but I don’t know that he’ll ever sniff a P4 HC job again. It would need to be a coach-in-waiting type deal.
