Sylla is a consensus 4-star prospect and one of the most highly touted big men in the nation.
Georgia Tech basketball has landed a significant addition to its 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of Mouhamed Sylla, a consensus 4-star prospect and one of the most highly touted big men in the nation. Sylla, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound center originally from Senegal, chose Georgia Tech over Oregon and Arkansas, delivering a major recruiting victory for head coach Damon Stoudamire.
Sylla’s decision to join the Yellow Jackets comes on the heels of a meteoric rise in his stock over the last year, where he has been playing most recently at Bella Vista College Prep in Scottsdale, Arizona. Widely regarded for his defensive prowess and athleticism, Sylla is ranked #14 overall and the #1 center by On3, #30 overall and the #5 center by 247Sports, and #43 overall and the #5 center by ESPN. His combination of size, skill, and potential makes him a game-changing addition to Georgia Tech’s frontcourt.

Defensive Anchor with Upside
Jamie Shaw, National Basketball Recruiting Analyst at On3 provided an insightful evaluation of Sylla, highlighting his defensive versatility and knack for being around the ball. “His best attribute might be that he always seems to be around the ball,” Shaw noted. “Defensively, he has some intriguing versatility. Sylla is capable of sliding his feet and turning his hips with perimeter-based forwards. He is also good in the passing lanes and he can protect the rim both on and off the ball.”
On the offensive end, Sylla is a force around the rim, showcasing a high motor and an aggressive style. “He attempts to dunk everything he catches within five feet of the basket,” Shaw added. While his jump shot and decision-making are areas for improvement, Sylla’s face-up game and ability to attack the rim off the dribble demonstrate his potential to develop into a well-rounded offensive threat.
Feeling at Home
Sylla’s commitment to Georgia Tech was rooted in a strong connection with the program and its vision for his future. “I picked to go to Georgia Tech because when I went on my visit there I felt at home,” Sylla told 247Sports. “And, I know they can help me get to the NBA.”
The addition of Sylla strengthens Georgia Tech’s 2025 recruiting class, which now includes five promising players: 4-star Akai Fleming, 3-star Brandon Stores, 3-star Cole Kirouac, and Eric Chatfield. Sylla’s presence in the post adds a new dimension to a class that already features a mix of athleticism, scoring, and versatility.
A Crucial Win for Damon Stoudamire
Sylla’s commitment is not only a boost for Georgia Tech’s roster but also a significant milestone for head coach Damon Stoudamire. In his second season at the helm, Stoudamire has solidified his reputation as a strong recruiter capable of competing for top-tier talent. Landing a player of Sylla’s caliber all but ensures Stoudamire will have another season to continue building the program.
If Mouhamed Sylla adds a semblance of half court offensive polish, he could become a high-level NBA draft prospect.
