NIL, recruiting news, and predictions
It feels like it’s been ages since I last sat down to write up a Tidbits article. It’s just been that kind of summer. With the college football season all but here, and the anticipation of the Yellow Jackets’ season opener against the Seminoles, there was no way I would miss another week. And for anyone who did notice, I apologize for the irregularity. I am hoping to get back to a regular schedule of weekly articles. With all that said, today’s Tidbits focuses almost entirely on football and, well, more football. So, let’s get started with our first article.
Yes. The fact that this article is from UGAWire was one of the main reasons I included it. It’s only honest of me to admit that when I saw the source and subject matter, I simply couldn’t resist reading/including the article. I had to see what it had to say about the news of Josh Petty’s committing to Georgia Tech.
The main takeaway for me is that u(sic)ga is still the recruiting leader in the state, but, as the author does mention, with a commitment like this, maybe Tech can indeed become more of a “pain in the side” of the bulldwags. I’d have no problem with that. One thing I’m not certain about though, is if this indeed is (potentially) the second 5-star recruit in Tech history or the first.
This article is a perfect follow-up to the last one. It seems the news of Josh Petty’s commitment to Georgia Tech was a bit of a surprise for people. Given that he’s an offensive lineman from the state of Georgia, it wasn’t too surprising that he would have been heavily recruited by Tech. When taking into account head coach Brent Key’s background as an O-lineman and what seems to be his ability to appeal to players of that position, I’m not all too surprised by the news.
A question the article seems to bring up regards how NIL may have factored into the decision given this latest news. The article states Petty will receive a ‘Roster Value’ NIL deal with a payout that can reach up to 2.4 million dollars over three years. When all is said and done, the deal is considered one of the biggest NIL deals we’ve seen so far. While it is interesting to see how the NIL era unfolds and impacts college sports, I was pleased to read the comments about Tech’s strong education system also playing a factor in the decision. I guess, sometimes, it’s not just about the money.
So, with Georgia Tech’s showdown against FSU set to take place next week in Dublin, Ireland, the countdown to college football kickoff continues. This article provides all the betting angles and odds you’ll need to make your pick. And clearly, the Yellow Jackets will be underdogs against the 10th-ranked Seminoles. Honestly, I can’t think of a better way to start the season.
