Isaiah Gibson chose another prominent college football program on Monday.
A week after decommitting from USC, the five-star edge rusher from the class of 2025 decided to join Georgia. He picked the Bulldogs over other SEC teams in Auburn, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
Last Thursday, Gibson wrote that someone always says something about “one particular school” during his visits. He told On3’s Hayes Fawcett that he’s “going to that particular school.”
According to 247Sports, Gibson is the top-ranked edge rusher and No. 17 recruit from next year’s graduating class. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound defender collected 17 sacks for Georgia’s Warner Robins High School last season.
In his scouting report for 247Sports, Andrew Ivins called Gibson a “high-ceiling defender that could fit a variety of different roles.”
Gibson originally committed to USC in March, but he re-opened the recruiting process last Tuesday. He recently visited Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Georgia.
Lincoln Riley lost another five-star recruit last week, as defensive tackle Justus Terry also pulled his commitment to the Trojans. On3 and 247Sports both predict he’ll follow Gibson to Georgia.
Those prospects offered hope to revitalize a USC defense that allowed 34.4 points per game last season. The program fired defensive coordinator Alex Grinch before finishing 8-5 with Caleb Williams under center.
Gibson could instead become the next in a long line of dominant defenders to play for Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs relinquished just 15.6 points per game last year.
