What started off as a blowout turned into a fourth quarter back-and-forth for the ages as No. 2 Georgia battled No. 4 Alabama. But whether they were destined to win by one point or 50 points, the Crimson Tide got the win.
Alabama raced out to a 28-0 lead, scoring touchdowns on each of their first four drives while limiting Georgia to just 10 plays while doing it. The Crimson Tide forced the Bulldogs into several costly turnovers and went into halftime comfortable in their 30-7 lead. But things unraveled in the second half as Alabama’s offense stopped humming while Georgia’s steadily got back into game.
In the fourth quarter, Georgia turned up the juice with three straight touchdown drives of their own to take a 34-33 lead over the Crimson Tide. But after conceding the lead, Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe needed only one play to get the Crimson Tide back out in front, finding 17-year-old speedster Ryan Williams for a 75-yard go-ahead touchdown. Georgia attempted to tie the game on their final drive but Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception to end the game.
It was a thrilling game that many are already calling the Game of the Year and will likely see Alabama grab the No. 1 ranking in the country in the next AP poll.
With the way Alabama handled Georgia, it may be high time to talk about Alabama being the favorite in the national championship game. You don’t just beat the No. 2 team in the nation after leading by 28 at one point and not have a lot of people hopping on your bandwagon.
Are Alabama the new favorites to win it all this year?
