What looked on paper like a very close matchup between two of the resident powerhouses of SEC football has turned into a massive blowout at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa as Alabama have just been crushing Georgia.
Alabama got the ball first and drove straight down for an opening drive touchdown with quarterback Jalen Milroe running it in for the seven-yard score. They then forced a Georgia three-and-out to get the ball back on their out 16-yard line. But Milroe led the Tide down the field in a hurry, getting all 84 yards of that drive and capping it with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Jam Miller to make it 14-0. The first quarter coup de grace came after Carson Beck threw an interception to Domani Jackson. Three plays later, Germie Bernard ran it in for a touchdown to make it 21-0 in the first quarter.

“Georgia allowed 21 points *combined* in their previous four games dating back to last season. Alabama has put up 21 in the first quarter,” Yahoo’s Ross Dellenger noted.
“I’m not used to seeing Georgia having a bad defense like this,” another user wrote.
“I picked Bama but didn’t think they’d be smoking Georgia this bad,” wrote a third.
UPDATE: While writing this, Georgia scored another touchdown early in the second quarter to go up 28-0.
We’ve seen Alabama look this good against some pretty good teams before. But rarely against a Georgia team that most had pegged as national championship favorites.
Depending on how this game finishes, we could be looking at the national title race in an entirely different light in a few hours.
The game is being played on ABC.
