We did it, y’all. We’ve made it to Week 1 of the 2024 college football season. As we await NDSU handing Colorado the first of many L’s of their season tonight, let’s go around the new-look SEC and see who is making headlines.
Here’s what’s happening around the SEC.
- Florida has called for the fans to wear white and “White Out” Ben Hill Griffin Stadium when Miami comes to town on Saturday. The problem is, Miami is going to wear all white during the game. Florida fans are very mad online about this. The season is clearly off to a great start in Gainesville.
- Tennessee athletic director Danny White is set to get a pay raise that will make him the nation’s highest paid AD. The baseball team won the natty, the basketball team is a perennial top-five team, and the football team is regularly ranked. On the surface, this type of cross-sport success merits the pay raise. I, however, only see that this means Tennessee is not a football school.
- Oklahoma running backs coach DeMarco Murray will serve a one-game suspension for recruiting violations. I had not idea Murray was a coach at Oklahoma, let alone entering his fifth season. In the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi, “That’s not a name I’ve heard in a long time.”
- In happier Oklahoma news, linebacker Danny Stutsman is giving $50,000 of his own NIL to be spread across the team’s 18 walk-ons.
- Missouri called for a sellout against Murray State, and they have now gotten said sellout. Maybe if Missouri scheduled better non-conference games they would sellout organically.
GO DAWGS!!!
