All I’m going to say is, if you do not like this week’s edition of Around the SEC, please do not throw your bottles and trash towards me. I have more fortitude than an SEC referee and will not change my stance. (I know, I know – there are no stances taken in Around the SEC and it is merely reporting on the happenings and goings of the league. But humor me – there can never be enough digs and jabs taken at the SEC referees and officials over what occurred in Austin and the response from the league.)
Here’s what’s happening around the SEC.
- The SEC fined Texas $250,000 and threatened to take away alcohol sales if certain measures were not adhered to by the Longhorns. Additionally, the SEC tasked Texas with identifying individuals who threw trash onto the field and to remove their privileges to attend games this academic year. Basically, no substantial action or discipline was taken on Texas, and they are now on Double Secret Probation. Whatever. Horns Down. 30-15.
- Alabama has a new sign and slogan: “Takes No Talent”. Every time a mistake is made at practice by a member of the Tide, they must run over to the TNT (Takes No Talent) sign and tap it. Makes me chuckle to see the Tide program go from the GOAT modern dynasty to a marginally better version of Butch Jones’ Tennessee.
- Missouri won their sixth game, barely scraping by an abject Auburn team 21-17, and celebrated by donning “Bowl Bound” paraphernalia. Everyone was duped thinking this was a playoff team. You cannot be a playoff team when you throw on a “Bowl Bound” shirt after your sixth win. Thems the rules, I didn’t make them.
- Oklahoma fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell after their abysmal start to life in the SEC. Head coach Brent Venables may not be far behind, though his almost $49 million buyout could make that difficult. Welcome to the SEC.
- Vanderbilt is finally ranked. Anchor Down.
GO DAWGS!!!
