No one can say this is a boring conference, right? After an insane weekend, let’s take a look at who is making headlines down south.
Here’s what’s happening around the SEC.
- In case you forgot, Vanderbilt beat Alabama on Saturday in Nashville 40-35. The students ripped down the goal posts and threw them into Cumberland River. Quarterback Diego Pavia is looking like his NIL is about to increase. The SEC Shorts folks made an elite video. Heck, Vanderbilt is even auctioning off anything they can from the game to generate more money for their NIL fund (or stadium renovation). It was Vanderbilt’s first ever win against a Top-5 opponent, and as someone who obtained their graduate degree from Vanderbilt, I am elated for everyone associated with the school.
- As a reminder, Alabama lost to Vanderbilt 40-35 this past Saturday. Safety Malachi Moore threw a temper tantrum on the field and was called out by former Tide running back Damien Harris for his antics. While Moore issued an apology later on X (Twitter), head coach Kalen DeBoer stated there would be no suspension for Moore. Between this and some of the shenanigans Tide players would participating in two Saturdays ago while up big against Georgia, it’s safe to say there is a shift in tone in Tuscaloosa. It’s early days for DeBoer, but he may be pulling a Gregg Berhalter by being too buddy-buddy with his players. Though, the tone on Finebaum is still immaculate.
- There wasn’t just one massive upset in the SEC, but two! Arkansas came back to defeat Tennessee at home 19-14 behind their backup true freshman quarterback Malachi Singleton. Arkansas AD Hunter Yurachek stated that he is totally cool with paying the $250,000 fine levied on the Razorbacks for storming the field.
- Josh Heupel is 7-7 in his past 14 conference games. That’s it. That’s the bullet point.
GO DAWGS!!!
