Bulldog Tailback Commit Frazier Brings Speed, Balance To Loaded Class

There are very few positions at which the University of Georgia struggles to recruit elite football players.

And with Walker and Worley, Hearst and Davis, Musa and Michel and Chubb and Gurley, well, suffice it to say tailback is not and never has been one of them. But even by the Red and Black’s lofty running back recruiting standards 2024 is getting a little ridiculous.

This afternoon Kirby Smart and Dell McGee picked up the third commitment from a tailback for this class, and it was perhaps the biggest yet.

Four star recruit Nate Frazier out of California powerhouse Mater Dei picked the Dawgs this afternoon over fellow finalists Alabama, Oregon, and Texas A&M. In truth Frazier is one of those recruits we’ve come to expect this Bulldog staff to zero in on, a player with offers from every major football power in the nation. And for good reason.

Frazier is ranked the #4 tailback in the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the #4 player in the state of California and the #51 player in the nation.

At 5’10, 208 pounds Frazier is compact and speedy. He also has good vision and outstanding balance. Repeatedly in these highlights we see him shake off glancing blows and arm tackles. If you’re going to tote the rock in the SEC, where next level athletes come flying at you from all over the place, it’s critical that you don’t go down on first contact.

But the thing that really stands out is the speed. Frazier accelerates through the hole or around the end and then fully turns on the after burners. Gaging speed in high school highlights is always tough. But in these Frazier is running over, around and through players from west coast powers Bishop Gorman, Centennial, and St. John Bosco. There are quite a few future college football players on these fields, and Frazier is blowing them off the road.

Along with Pebblebrook speedster Dwight Phillips and Florida bruiser Chauncey Bowens Frazier gives the Class City Canines three of the ten highest rated tailbacks in the class of 2024. It’s likely the top running back class in the nation, and from a pure recruiting wattage standpoint the most highly ranked group in recent Bulldog memory. While Georgia has often snagged two elite backs in a given class (Gurley and Marshall, Chubb and Michel, Milton and Edwards) three tailbacks of this caliber in one class is a haul. But it’s a necessary expenditure of scholarships. With Kendall Milton and Daijun Edwards draft eligible, Branson Robinson only a season away, and Andrew Paul still a bit of an unknown coming off knee surgery, the Bulldogs need to reload for the future in the backfield.
