Dawgs to Pros: Three Diamond Dawgs selected in this past week’s MLB draft

Charlie Condon- Round 1: pick 3 (Colorado Rockies)

Charlie Condon would fall to the third overall pick on Sunday night after Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana and Wake Forest’s Chase Burns were selected with the first two picks on the night. Condon was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the third pick as he will more than likely have a fast track to the show as he could provide a spark for a struggling Rockies franchise. It is not yet known what position Condon will call home within the Rockies’ organization as he is capable of playing just about anywhere in the field. With that being said, the Rockies are getting an absolute DAWG.

Corey Collins- Round 6: pick 173 (New York Mets)

It would be a few rounds later before another Dawg would hear their name called as fan favorite Corey Collins would eventually be taken in the 6th round by the New York Mets. Collins will be sorely missed by the Dawgs’ program and community as he was a big time leader and player throughout his four seasons at Georgia. Collins will most likely continue his career at First Base but will probably be used more at the DH spot as he climbs the pro ranks.

Fernando Gonzalez- Round 20: pick 598 (San Francisco Giants)

Many rounds would pass by before another Dawg got the call as Fernando Gonzalez was eventually selected in the 20th round by the San Francisco Giants. Gonzalez is another fan favorite that will be missed within the Georgia program as he did an incredible job serving behind the dish in his four seasons with the Dawgs. Gonzalez will most likely continue his career behind the plate as his defense in one of the main bright spots in his game.
