Georgia’s week of play began on Tuesday, taking on the in-state West Georgia Wolves. Per usual, the Dawgs’ bats were on fire throughout this one as Georgia put up 13 total runs. While West Georgia did put up a fight, scoring six in the fourth and fifth innings, it would not be enough to overcome the dominant Dawgs’ lineup. Daniel Jackson led the charge at the plate with two home runs, while Devin Obee and Nolan McCarthy added a couple more of their own.

Following their win, Georgia had a few days to rest as they geared up for the series opener against the 11th-ranked Auburn Tigers beginning on Friday. Game one of this series was a solid one to watch. The Georgia bats didn’t put up their usual numbers but still were able to scrap at the plate while leaning on an excellent performance from their pitching staff, earning the 4-1 win. Kolten Smith turned in a very solid start on the mound, allowing no hits through five innings while striking out eight. The Dawgs’ lineup was led by Daniel Jackson and Devin Obee once again, as both guys had home runs on the night.

Due to possible bad weather taking place on Sunday, the Dawgs decided to move game three of the series up to Saturday, making for a doubleheader to cap the series off. Game two of this series saw a lot more offense from both teams. Auburn would chip away throughout this one, putting up seven total runs. While seven runs may get you a win against a fair amount of teams, it won’t against this scrappy Dawgs’ offense. Georgia’s bats responded with 11 runs of their own in this one, with Christian Adams and Nolan McCarthy both having clutch home runs to earn the 11-7 win.

Game three of this series would turn out to be one of the more entertaining games of this season. Both offenses were putting runs together throughout this one, leading to things being tied up at 4-4 going into extra innings. In the top half of the tenth, Auburn’s Bub Terrell hit an absolute bomb over the right field fence to give the Tigers the 6-4 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning. While the air would be taken out of most teams, the same cannot be said for this Georgia team as they quickly loaded the bases up in the tenth. Nolan McCarthy would then come up and hit a chopper to first base, the Tigers would then make a fatal error on the play, allowing Slate Alford and Ryland Zaborowski to score and tie things up at 6-6.

Following the game-tying error, Daniel Jackson would come to the plate looking to just get the ball in play to score the winning run. Jackson would go on to do much more than that, blasting a three-run walk-off home run over the right field fence to earn the series sweep for the Dawgs.

Georgia will now rest and prepare for a Tuesday match-up at Foley Field against Queens University of Charlotte. Following that one, the Dawgs will pack up and head to Austin, Texas, to take on the fifth-ranked Texas Longhorns in a three-game set.
That’s all for this edition of Diamond Dawg weekly recap. As always, Go Dawgs!!
